Jerusalem After the monarchy was divided following Solomon's death (ca. 930 BCE), Jerusalem remained the capital of the kingdom of Judah, whereas the capital of the kingdom of Israel changed a number of times, as one dynasty supplanted another.

Safed rose to fame in the 16th century a center of Kabbalah, or Jewish mysticism.[7] A Hebrew printing press was established in Safed in 1577 by Eliezer Ashkenazi and his son, Isaac of Prague.[4] It was the first press in Palestine and the whole of the Ottoman Empire.[8]

     
  Dead Sea There are two contending hypotheses about the origin of the low elevation of the Dead Sea. The older hypothesis is that it lies in a true rift zone, an extension of the Red Sea Rift, or even of the Great Rift Valley of eastern Africa.
     
  Masada The cliffs on the east edge of Masada are about 1,300 feet (400 m) high and the cliffs on the west are about 300 feet (90 m) high; the natural approaches to the cliff top are very difficult.
     
  Lahat Promenade (Herbert Samuel St.) - The main promenade in Tel-Aviv, leading from Gordon beach to Aviv beach. The promenade was founded in 1939 as a narrow promenade, elevated above sea level. In the 1980's it was demolished in preparation for reconstruction. In 1982, the first section was opened for public.
     
  Jaffa was captured during the Crusades, and became the County of Jaffa and Ascalon, one of the vassals of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. One of its counts, John of Ibelin, wrote the principal book of the Assizes of the Kingdom of Jerusalem.
